Helsinki airport… what a mess…

I fly almost every week. Back in the old days, it was fun to go to the Vantaa airport because you could enjoy its “Finnishness”. Today it has been smothered by some crazy consultant’s idea about what an airport should look like! Gone is the roomy light feeling, gone are the small Finnish shops and cafés. Welcome the private equity boys’ (SSP the food travel experts and profits up 28% so far this year!) and their ideas about expensive soggy sandwiches, tasteless €4.20 coffees, and €10 glasses of wines! Welcome the endless expensively branded clothes and €60 perfumes. Goodbye Finland… and even worse are the new shops that take up more than half the space so you can hardly move in the crowded narrow corridors. Finavia are doing a disservice to their owners – us!
